Silas Molyneaux, at 92 the oldest man at Barker’s Centennial party on Sunday, remembers working summers for the Peas Vinery and eating “poison” maraschino cherries that were canned at what is now PWT (Pizza, Wings & Things) Restaurant on Quaker Street.

A couple of campers grabbed their new friend by his hands, one each, and pulled him toward the cabin anxiously. Some impromptu rock climbing was about to start and they didn’t want to miss it. About a dozen young campers streamed into the cabin near the Camp Kenan mess hall Thursday morning, gathering on cushions and gabbing excitedly as three boys suited up to tackle the rock-climbing wall.

BARKER SCHOOLS: Learning by design
Two large geodesic domes greeted everyone entering Barker High School last week. The structures were standing outside the high school entrance. Both were built by students in teacher Tom Mallon’s architectural computer aided drawing classes and funded by a grant from the Orleans/Niagara Teacher Center.

Josie Porth has organized a “Senior Night Out,” on Feb. 13, that has her chauffeuring 22 senior citizens from Barker to DeFlippo’s Restaurant by limo for an early Valentine’s Day dinner.
