More games in Toronto

PRO FOOTBALL: NFL approves the deal on Tuesday.

BUFFALO — The NFL's International Committe approved the Buffalo Bills' plan to extend their series of games in Toronto on Tuesday and a new five-year agreement between the teams and Rogers Communications is expected to be finalized soon.

"The International Committee's decision to approve the continuation of our games in Toronto is a crucial step in our ongoing efforts to regionalize our franchise," Bills CEO Russ Brandon said in a statement. "As we have stated on many occasions, the regionalization process remains vital to keeping our franchise strong in Western New York. We are continuing our discussions with Rogers Communications on a new deal and remain optimistic that we can come to an agreement in the near future."

Canadian blogger John Kryk reported Tuesday on canoe.ca that the two sides are very close and and a deal could be announced in the coming weeks.

Kryk also reported that the deal will be "significantly" less lucrative for the Bills and lead to lowered ticket prices for the annual game in Toronto.

Rogers paid $78 million for the previous five-year deal, which included an annual regular season game and three preseason contests, of which the final game, scheduled for this August, was canceled.
