CAMBRIA: Fire company recently struck by blaze gets $70K grant

CAMBRIA —
The Cambria Volunteer Fire Co.— which this week suffered the loss of one of its engines in a fire that also damaged its hall on Wilson-Cambria Road — has received a grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
Sen. Charles E. Schumer announced Wednesday that a $70,300 grant will be awarded to the Cambria company through the 2008 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
The fire company lost more than $1 million worth of equipment when its engine pumper caught fire while parked at the hall.
Two other trucks and an ambulance were damaged in the fire, and the garage suffered damage, as well.
Schumer said this grant will help the company purchase new equipment and resources.
“This funding could not have come at a better time,” Schumer said in a news release. “It is essential that we provide our local heroes with the equipment and resources they need to do their jobs safely and efficiently. This federal money will help these firefighters get back on their feet to continue to help keep our communities safe.”
Since 2004, with the 2008 awards, the grant program has provided a total of almost $2.75 billion to first-responder organizations across the country to purchase response equipment, personal protective equipment, and vehicles.
The grant for the Cambria emergency response program is part of round 25 of the grant program announcements.
