MAILBAG: City parade was very well done

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal —

I think we should commend the City of Lockport administration and the Youth and Recreation Department, for beginning our 4th of July celebration with possibly the best parade ever. To watch the children scramble for the pieces of candy being thrown by the marchers, and see the look of joy and wonderment on their faces, was truly enjoyable.

In a very difficult fiscal time in the city of Lockport, a parade of this proportion was pulled off, in a very short amount of time. Special recognition should go to Mayor Anne McCaffrey, Alderwoman Kitty Fogle and interim Youth and Rec Director Andrew Nemi, for their vision of having the best parade possible on a very limited budget.

I, for one, was almost sure we would not have a parade again this year due to the fiscal problems, but these three individuals never wavered and made sure that the “show would go on.” I was particularly surprised by the number of fire trucks, bagpipers, twirlers and the Zamboni machine from the new hockey rink, in this year’s parade. It seemed longer than usual, to the delight of all present.

Lastly a special thank you should go to the Man upstairs who stopped the rain as the parade was about to begin and held it off as the marchers made their way down Locust Street. My two grand daughters are still fighting over the foam hockey puck that was thrown their way by the youth hockey players, representing the Lockport Arena.

A job well done by all.

Bill Agronin, Lockport
