NEWFANE: Camden's Coffee and Creamery to be without a home

NEWFANE — Camden’s Coffee and Creamery is going to be without a home.

The Newfane coffee house and restaurant was told by its landlord, town Councilwoman Laura Rutland, it had 45 days to move. It came as a surprise to the owners, who said it wasn’t anything they did.

“She found a business that would pay more in rent,” said Greg Szeluga. “They told us we had 45 days to move.”

Greg and his wife, Donna Szeluga, opened Camden’s in July of last year in the building formerly known as the Coffee Emporium on Van Horn Avenue in Newfane. Camden’s offered coffee with a variety of baked goods, as well as ice cream, sandwiches and milkshakes.

Szeluga would not comment further, except to say Camden’s would close at the end of the month, and they found someone to buy their equipment.

The Szelugas were paying rent monthly to Rutland. Rutland would not comment for the story, except to say there was no written lease, and the Szelugas could have left anytime. She couldn’t say what would be moving into the building.

“Not right at the moment,” she said.
