NIAGARA COUNTY: Royalton, Pendleton projects get stimulus funds
Staff Reports
Lockport Union-Sun & Journal
Gov. David A. Paterson’s office has announced the certification of several transportation projects in the county through the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
The projects are:
• Replacement of the Cedar Street bridge over the Tonawanda Creek in Royalton and Newstead, Erie County. The bridge is in poor condition and will be reconstructed. The project cost is estimated at $4.1 million; stimulus funding of $3.3 million has been pledged. The reconstruction should be complete in the summer of 2010.
• Repaving of a 2-mile section of Townline Road in Pendleton and Wheatfield. Federal funding of $1.8 million is pledged, and the paving should be done in the spring of 2010.
• Guide-rail end replacements at about 50 locations around the county to meet current federal standards. $220,000 in stimulus funding is pledged; the project should be finished by the end of this year.
• Improving storm water management along Tonawanda Creek Road in Pendleton; $50,000 in stimulus funding is pledged, and work is expected to be finished this fall.
ARRA funding of $7.9 million was announced for road and bridge projects in Niagara, Erie, Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties last week. According to the governor’s office, the projects will create an estimated 189 jobs.
ARRA-certified projects are selected by regional metropolitan planning organizations — in this area, Greater Buffalo Niagara Regional Transportation Council — or the state transportation department, the governor’s office said.
