LOCKPORT SCHOOLS: 32 people to retire

Thirty-two employees of Lockport City School District are retiring once the school year ends.

Altogether, the staff members, mainly teachers, have more than 800 years of service to the district, according to Susan Grigg, assistant superintendent for personnel.

The school board approved replacement hires for some posts this past Wednesday. Others will be replaced by existing staff.

The retirees, all but three of whom will leave the district July 1, are:

• Marianne Baker, Committee on Special Education chairperson/school psychologist, 17 years.

• Janice Beales, first and second-grade teacher at Charles Upson Elementary, and early in her career kindergarten teacher at various elementary schools, 37 1/2 years.

• Gail Brown, high school math and technology teacher, 35 years. Susan Long has been hired to replace her.

• Margaret Cardone, sixth-grade teacher at Emmet Belknap Middle School and Washington Hunt Elementary, and early in her career a reading teacher at George Southard Elementary, 33 years. Michael Finnerty is transferring from John Pound to replace her.

• Jane Fiedler, reading teacher at Charles Upson, Anna Merritt, Roy B. Kelley, Washington Hunt and Charlotte Cross elementary schools, 33 years. Steven Smith has been hired to replace her.

• Mike Finn, social studies teacher for grades 8, 9 and 12 at North Park Middle and Lockport High schools, 35 years. Finn also coached varsity football. Scott Reddinger has been hired to replace him.

• Christine Foster, special education and school counselor at LHS, 20 years. Foster will retire in January.

• Anna Gaeta-Ulas, Spanish and French teacher at the high and middle schools, fifth-grade teacher at Washington Hunt and bilingual teacher at various schools, 32 years. Katie Taylor has been hired to replace her.

• Anette Gailor, kindergarten, first and second-grade teacher at George Southard and Roy B. Kelley schools, 22 years. Susan Gmerek is transferring from DeWitt Clinton to replace her.

• Ann Gambino-Cook, sixth-grade teacher at North Park and Emmet Belknap schools, and prior to 1992 reading teacher at Anna Merritt, 28 years. Jessica Carlin has been hired to replace her.

• Karen Grundy, math teacher at North Park, 32 years. Jennifer Betz has been hired to replace her.

• Katherine F. Jank, third- and fourth-grade teacher at Charles Upson and George Southard schools and, prior to 1988, high school business teacher, 22 years.

• Eileen B. Kramer, reading teacher at George Southard and first-grade teacher at Charles Upson, 34 years. Nancy Roberts has been hired to replace her.

• Patricia Marotta, first-, second- and third-grade teacher at Anna Merritt and Charlotte Cross schools, 10 years.

• Gail Marshall, special education teacher at Emmet Belknap, Anna Merritt and North Park schools, 23 years. Amanda Schaus has been hired to replace her.

• Robert Merrill, first-, third- and sixth-grade teacher at Charles Upson and Anna Merritt schools, 37 years. Joann M. Inchiosa has been hired to replace him.

• Douglas Michalski, North Park art teacher, 21 years.

• Susan Miller, kindergarten, first, second and fifth-grade teacher at George Southard and John Pound schools, 32 years.

• JoGee Monroe, speech therapist district-wide, mainly at Charles Upson, 34 years. Anne Kiernan has been hired to replace her

• Gayle Murphy, kindergarten teacher district-wide, last at Charles Upson, 18 years.

• Susan Myers, elementary teacher with stints in summer school direction, gifted and talented, math and technology instruction, Roy B. Kelley and George Southard schools, 15 years.

• Thomas O’Day, high school social studies teacher, 31 years. Timothy Willett has been hired to replace him.

• Sandy O’Neil, kindergarten teacher at Washington Hunt school, 21 years. Ericka Johnston has been hired to replace her.

• Karen Peterman, home and careers teacher at North Park, LHS and Emmet Belknap, 28 years.

• Joann Shields, teacher’s aide at various schools, 11 years. She’ll retire Sept. 5.

• Daniel Shields, assistant custodian at Washington Hunt, Charles Upson and LHS, 10 years. He’ll retire Aug. 16.

• Loraine Stencel, special education teacher at Anna Merritt and Washington Hunt schools, 28 years. Shauna Hartrich has been hired to replace her.

• Linda Taylor, kindergarten, first- and second-grade teacher at Roy B. Kelley and Anna Merritt schools, 33 years. Nancy Stryker is transferring from Anna Merritt to replace her.

• Jean Weisbeck, fifth- and sixth-grade teacher at North Park, Charles Upson and John Pound schools, 34 years.

• Sonia Werner, first-, third- and fourth-grade teacher at Charles Upson, 36 years. Gail Linderman is transferring from Washington Hunt to replace her.

• Deborah Foltz, school nurse district-wide, 20 1/2 years.

• Joann White, school monitor and teacher’s aide at various schools, 9 years.
