Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — ‘Presidential visits’ to be explored
Over more than two centuries, at least 15 future and sitting presidents of the United States have visited Niagara County.
Ann Marie Linnabery, assistant director of the Niagara History Center, will share the details and purpose of those visits at 2 p.m. Feb. 27 at the History Center, 215 Niagara St.
Beginning in 1812 when future President William Henry Harrison visited Fort Niagara, through John Kennedy’s campaign tour in September 1960, presidents stopped in Niagara County on either personal or presidential business. Find out from Linnabery which president assisted passengers after a railroad accident, which first lady went on a shopping spree in Niagara Falls and Lockport, and more.
Linnabery, who’s been on the History Center staff since 2004, is a Master of American History; her emphasis is on the social, religious and political history of 19th century Western New York. She’s the author of Niagara Discoveries and Spotlight On The Penney Gallery, two weekly historical features published by the Union-Sun & Journal.
Her program at the History Center is admission-free. For more information, call 434-7433.
