Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — We are in the final countdown to the arrival of spring at 11:57 Thursday. It isn’t going to change the temperature or forecast, but hopefully it will help change our mindset. I can’t wait to see the golden daffodils along the road.
Prize donations are being accepted for a May 1 benefit for Barker second-grader Skyla Dennis, who was recently diagnosed with acute myeoblastic leukemia. Flyers are posted around town and I will keep you updated with details of the event, to be held at the Hartland Fire Hall. If you can help, call Julie Socie at 863-2081 or Jen Quegliano at 438-6569.
The next meeting of the Barker Seniors is Friday at the Barker Fire Hall. The Niagara Country Fiddlers will be entertaining. Easter pen pal letters and cards must be in by April 4. The Lenten lunch menu includes stuffed shells, spinach salad, yellow wax beans, Italian bread, apple, milk, coffee and tea. Call the Somerset Town Hall at 795-3575 to reserve a lunch. The suggested donation price is $3.25. Jo Ann Greenwald is setting up a spring theatre trip for members (and the community) and would like to know your preference. The choices are Rhythm of the Dance on March 30, American Legion Band on April 6 or an Elvis Tribute on April 26, all at the Riviera Theatre. The trip would include the bus from Barker and a selected restaurant for dinner. Let her know your choice as soon as possible. Call Greenwald at 795-3787 for more information.
There is only one more sign-up for this summer’s session of Barker Lighthouse Optimist Soccer. LOSL is open to any child who is now in Pre-K through 12th grade. The last sign-up will be from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Barker Free Library. The price for registration doubles after April 1, so get registered on time.
