Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — It’s Homecoming Week in Barker! The classes are hard at work on their floats, so don’t miss the parade at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
We need your help. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the Barker Bosom Buddies team will be walking in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk at Watt Farms, in Albion, on Sunday. There is a big pink basket full of great goodies on display at Thee Barker Store, where you can pick up chances to win it. Chances are $1 or six for $5 and we will draw a winner on walk day. Anyone can join our team for the walk through the majestic orchards.
The Barker Seniors will meet Friday at Barker Fire Hall and it’s a Halloween party, so come in costume. Julie’s game starts at 10:30 a.m., the business meeting is at 11:30 a.m. and lunch will be served at 11:45 a.m.
The Niagara County Office for the Aging nutrition lunch consists of Swedish meatballs in mushroom gravy, whipped potatoes, Brussels sprouts, rye bread, lemon whip, milk and coffee or tea. Seniors must call Somerset Town Hall at 795-3575 by Thursday to order a lunch and reserve a place.
Storyteller Howard Edmond will entertain after lunch. Cards for the Pratt Elementary pen pals are due at this meeting.
Everyone age 55 or over, from any community, is invited to join this fun group; dues are $2 a year. For information, contact director Jo Ann Greenwald at 795-3787.
Tickets are on sale now for the drive-through or eat-in chicken dinner Sunday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 133 Telegraph Road, Middleport.
Our Barker Lions are cooking up their famous barbecue chicken and the chicken halves will be served with potato salad, baked beans, roll and dessert. Advance tickets cost $8 and this usually sells out quickly.
