Tickets are on sale now for the annual Barker Veteran’s Dinner, to be held Nov. 10 at Barker Fire Hall. Veterans are the honored guests and attend free of charge, but they must still register and get a ticket. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. and a buffet dinner catered by Two Sisters will be served at 5 p.m. The cost is $10 for non-veterans and $5 for children younger than 12.
The event features a stirring tribute to veterans, including the Missing Man table set by Newfane Legion Post. The Vignettes and the Barker Concert Choir, led by Drew Burke, will provide entertainment. The guest speaker is Earl Schmidt, a veteran of Desert Shield, Desert Storm and Afghanistan.
Tickets are available at Thee Barker Store, Three Bears Café or Somerset Town Hall; or call Wally Coates at 795-9948.
Got popcorn? The annual popcorn fundraiser for the Barker Pack 26 Cub Scouts camp fund offers all kinds of popcorn and goodies — but those of us who don’t want to indulge in the treats can still help two great organizations. You can order popcorn for your family to enjoy or donate to a special program that delivers that popcorn to soldiers in the U.S. military, helping morale and your waistline at the same time! Ask a Barker Cub Scout for details or call me at 795-9262.Barker-area residents, send your news to email@example.com (jpeg pictures, MSWord or text in e-mails only); or to 8691 Lake Road No. 9, Barker, NY 14012. To be in next week's Chatterbox, information should be in Julie's hands by 6 p.m. Monday.
