The First Baptist Church Missions Committee in Newfane is collecting sheets, blankets and pillows, winter coats, boots, hats, scarves and gloves. The church is also accepting non-perishable food for their food pantry, and new and gently used toys and games for the Christmas season. For more information, call Denise at 585-205-6928.

The Newfane Lions Club will be presenting its annual Halloween party on Oct. 31 at the Newfane Community Center. Doors open at 6 p.m., with the costume contest starting at 6:30. Cash prizes will be given to the winners in each age group. Lions members will be handing out 50-cent pieces at the door, and cider and doughnuts will also be available. Lions and Leos will also be collecting used eyeglasses, hearing aids, ink jet cartridges, cell phones and peanut butter and jelly.

It’s time for a Turkey Party! The Wrights Corners Fire Company will hold its annual event at 7 p.m. Nov. 1 at the fire hall, 4043 Lake Ave. Refreshments will be served, and the event benefits the Exempts.

The Wrights Corners Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary will hold its annual chicken and biscuits dinner from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 5, at the fire hall, 4043 Lake Ave. Cost is $8 for adults, and $6 for seniors or kids age 5 to 12; children under 5 eat free. Take-outs are available.

The Newfane United Methodist Church, 2699 Main St., will host an Election Day Chicken and Biscuit Dinner on Nov. 5; serving begins at 4:30 p.m. The dinner will include chicken and biscuits, squash, apple salad, cranberries and homemade pies. The church is handicapped accessible and take-outs are available. Call 778-7011 for more information. Cost is $8.50 for adults and $4 for children.
