'Tis the season for festivals, raffles

Saturday brings the annual Harvest Dinner and Market at Faith United Methodist Church, Quaker and Haight roads. The fun starts at 4:30 p.m. Pulled pork dinners include dessert, for $7.50, and service is dine-in or take-out.

The Somerset Conservation Club’s Fall Raffle is scheduled for 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday. The cost is $20 per ticket for a chance to win 10 different guns/rifles, or a half-day of Lake Ontario Fishing for four people, from Thrill Seekers Sport Fishing. For tickets, call Paul Higgins at 796-1127, Ron Malcolm at 930-4169 or Frank Flint at 795-3907. Somerset Conservation Club is at 1129 Johnson Creek Road. Winning ticket-holders need not be present at the drawing.

The Hartland Historical Society Fall Fest will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the No. 10 Schoolhouse, Carmen and Seaman Roads. Live bluegrass music is by the Fraterrigo Family of Attica. There will be a basket raffle, bake sale and chowder sale. Also for sale: hot dogs, hamburgers, Italian sausage and beverages, plus $8 turkey dinners.

An American Red Cross blood drive will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. Sept. 24 at Faith United Methodist Church, Quaker and Haight roads. Did you know that one pint of blood can help up to three people? Call 1-800-RED CROSS for an appointment or just walk in and donate. The coffee is hot and the welcome is always warm at Faith UMC.

You may have seen the Niagara Youth Marine Cadets at our annual Memorial Day ceremony in Somerset Town Park, or helping out at area benefits and events. This elite group of teens is accepting new applicants for their upcoming basic training “Boot Camp,” which begins Oct. 5.
