We need your help. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the Barker Bosom Buddies team will be walking in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk at Watt Farms on Oct. 20. There is a big pink basket full of great goodies on display at Thee Barker Store, where you can pick up chances to win it. The chances are $1 or six for $5, and a winner will be drawn on walk day. Your donations in any amount to the American Cancer Society are appreciated, and anyone can join our team for the walk through the majestic orchards.

The weather forecast is looking good for the Christmas at the Lighthouse on Sunday at Golden Hill State Park. The event takes place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at our own Thirty Mile Point Lighthouse, with something for everyone. Santa and his elves will be there for the kids, as well as face painting. Several local wineries will be offering free tastings, and there will be farmers with fall produce and other vendors. Try your luck in the Chinese auction; the take-out chicken barbecue by the Barker Lions Club begins at noon, and they will also be selling chili, hot dogs, cider, donuts and baked goods. Take tours of the Lighthouse, decorated for the holidays by the Friends of the Lighthouse, and you can climb the spiral staircase to the top. Parking and tours are all free.
