Somerset Town Supervisor Dan Engert wants to let area senior citizens know about a program coming to the Somerset Town Hall. The Niagara County Office of the Aging has, through NY Connect, offered to provide a chronic disease self-management program here, so seniors do not have to travel to Lockport. Any senior who has a chronic disease is eligible. The series will give participants direct access to nurses and medical professionals whose aim is to help them control the effects of their chronic illness by teaching them to be at the center of disease-control solutions. The Thursday classes will be held from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 24 and 31, Nov. 7, 14 and 21 and Dec. 5 at Somerset Town Hall, 8700 Haight Road. It’s OK if you are not able to attend all the sessions; they provide a book at the first class with a handout that refers you to the reading related to each class topic. Pre-registration is preferred but anybody who wants to attend any session is welcome. To get more information or to register, call the town supervisor’s office at 795-3575 or 438-3030.
