Wilson Food Pantry gearing up for busy winter

Garner Light, Wilson-Lake Plains coordinator, has announced that the Christmas Bird Count will be Dec. 14. The Wilson-Lake Plains bird count covers a 15-mile radius that includes parts of Lockport, Newfane, Wilson, Olcott, Cambria and Ransomville. This includes all of the Lake Ontario shoreline from Wilson-Tuscarora State Park to Phillips Road in Olcott. If you are interested in watching your bird feeders that day, or if you have neighbors or friends within the count circle that would be interested in helping, let Light know. The Wilson Historical Society offers everyone an opportunity to do some early Christmas shopping from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, with more than 20 vendors and crafters to choose from.

Also Saturday, Exley United Methodist Church is hosting its Annual Country Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event will feature a Victorian-style tea with muffins served at 9 a.m., handcrafted wreaths and jewelry, florals, aprons, homemade dog biscuits, catnip pillows, baked goods, homemade fudge and candies, jams, jellies and pickles, theme baskets for sale, and a chicken casserole luncheon served at 11 a.m.

The Garden Gate’s Holiday Open House will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at 257 Young St., Wilson. At 2 p.m. Sunday, attendees can sample wines from Schulze Vineyards and Winery. Call 751-6402 for more information.

Marge Clark, director of the Wilson Free Library, announced that the library will be hosting free computer classes the week of Nov. 4. Two classes will be held each day, Monday through Friday. The schedule is: Monday: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Email Intermediate; 1 to 4 p.m., Internet Intermediate. Tuesday: 2 to 5 p.m., Microsoft Word Intermediate; 5 p.m., Open Access. Bring your own device and ask questions. Wednesday, 2 to 5 p.m., Flash Drives and File Management; 5 p.m., Open Access. Thursday: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wikipedia; 1 to 4 p.m., Facebook Combo. Friday: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Gaga For Google; 1 to 4 p.m., Open Access. All classes are free, but registration is required. Stop by the library or call 751-6070 to reserve your spot.
