Newfane Lions Club hosting Halloween Party tonight

The Newfane Lions Club will be presenting its annual Halloween party tonight at the Newfane Community Center. Doors open at 6 p.m., with the costume contest starting at 6:30. Cash prizes will be given to the winners in each age group. Lions members will be handing out 50-cent pieces at the door, and cider and doughnuts will also be available. Lions and Leos will also be collecting used eyeglasses, hearing aids, ink jet cartridges, cell phones and peanut butter and jelly.

It’s time for a Turkey Party! The Wrights Corners Fire Company will hold its annual event at 7 p.m. Friday at the fire hall, 4043 Lake Ave. Refreshments will be served, and the event benefits the Fire Company Exempts.

Stop by the Newfane Free Library for some fun events. At 11 a.m. Saturday, they will hold a celebration to reveal of the new slogan for the library. Refreshments will be served, and all are welcome. Next week is “Food For Fines Week.” Return your overdue library items and pay your fines with canned goods or other non-perishable food items for the local food pantry.

Saturday is the day for the “Circuit Stompers” 5K run. There is a fun run starting at 9:30 a.m. and the 5K starts at 10. The race will start and finish in the Newfane Elementary School parking lot. The entry fee is $25; cost for the Fun Run is $5. You can also get information from one of the Circuit Stompers or by calling Bill Neidlinger at 697-2688. The race course is in the village and is flat and fast. There will be refreshments and age group awards after the race.

The Wrights Corners Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary will hold its annual Election Day chicken and biscuits dinner from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the fire hall, 4043 Lake Ave. Cost is $8 for adults, and $6 for seniors or kids age 5 to 12; under 5 eat free. Take-outs are available.
