Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — Slip, slap, slop! In the blazing summer sun remember to slip on a shirt, slap on a hat and slop on the sunscreen to stop damaging rays that could cause cancer later. Drink plenty of water and keep kids and pets in the shade. Play safe out there.
We’re looking for local artists to be the featured guests at our July 25 Barker Farmer’s Market Cruise Night and Local Artist Showcase. Set up a display of your art, to view or sell, in our shady park. Extended hours are 5 to 9 p.m. If you know a local artist, pass it on. Call me at 795-9262 for details.
“A Time to Live: A Country Boy’s Life Throughout the 20th Century” is the title of the book by our own C. Gordon Porter. The book of photos and memories should be arriving any day, and Gordie will be autographing them for buyers as soon as they are in hand. Gordie is full of colorful stories and folks have always said, “You should write a book!” Well, he did, and it will be out very soon. Stay tuned.
• Another local author, Diedre Evans, had her children’s book “Patti & Penny’s Trip to Paris” on sale at the Barker Market last week. Diedre wrote and illustrated the fun story that appeals to elementary through pre-teens, and can autograph it for you.
• Barker High School student Leah Perkins is going on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic soon and is collecting new or used, adult or child, baseball gloves to distribute to those who can’t afford them. The DR is a hotbed of baseball fans, with many major league farm teams there. Drop off your gloves at Thee Barker Store or you can leave them with me at the Thursday Farmer’s Market, but we need them before July 26.
