Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — MIDDLEPORT — Roy-Hart Elementary School students went Blue 4 Ben on April 4 to support 4-year-old Clarence resident Ben Sauer, who is currently fighting a brain tumor.
The fourth-grade student council also heard the story of 7-year-old Barker resident Skyla Dennis, who was recently diagnosed with leukemia.
In an effort to help both Ben and Skyla, students held a “dash for change” in which they ran from classroom to classroom collecting money. Students collected over $1,000 to split between the Sauer and Dennis families.
Students wanted to “raise awareness and send prayers and positive thoughts to both Ben and Skyla,” said fourth-grader Claire Halstead, adding that the students wanted to help financially as well.
There is a benefit for Skyla on May 3 at the Hartland Fire Hall, 8945 Ridge Road, Gasport, from 1 to 7 p.m. Food, drinks and raffles will be available. For more information, call Julie at 863-2081.
