Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — NEWFANE — The Newfane school board will attempt to begin and complete a capital outlay project on the middle school chimney before the end of June.
The proposed project will restore deteriorating bricks in the chimney, which has been damaged by freezing and thawing during winter months.
The project would cost about $100,000, and the school district has that amount budgeted for the 2013-2014 school year. The district is eligible to receive a 94 percent refund for the project in 2014-2015 if it is completed by June 30.
The project will need to be approved by the New York State Education Department before the project specifications can be put out to be bid on. The project will take about ten days to complete, business administrator Bart Schuler said.
