Stroll Around Newfane: It's time for the annual Apple Blossom Festival

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal —

If I may, I’d like to acknowledge a special anniversary this week. Brianna Loveland and sister Cheyenne, both students at Newfane Central School, celebrated five years since Cheyenne’s bone marrow donation saved the life of little sister Brianna. Brianna’s battled cancer when she was a baby and a reoccurrence at age 5 caused a fierce battle for survival. This local family, Brianna, Cheyenne, Kristen and parents Dawn and Bob, has been involved in cancer-fighting charities and other supportive groups like Rainbow of Help and they inspire me daily with their love and compassion. Cheyenne was 12 when she went through the operation to give her sister back her life. Please support Brianna, Ryan Kruzicke, Skyla Dennis and all the other local kids who have battled cancer; remember those taken by this awful disease. Support the Relay For Life of Lockport on June 14. The Concordia Kahunas from Lockport’s Concordia Lutheran Church in Newfane have been relaying and raising money for all 14 years of the local RFL. Sign up now at www.relayforlife.org/lockportny.

Newfane blooms this weekend for the annual Apple Blossom Festival, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at West Creek and Ide roads. The country fair at the farm village Hrvol House museum/barbershop, schoolhouse, blacksmith, printer, country store is open to everyone and admission and parking are free. The Hot Country Liners dance at 12:30 p.m. and visitors will find a Civil War encampment, displays, crafts, food, music and more. You can see and learn about decades of working farm equipment and machinery, including a working printing press and Lockport Felt Mill working loom. There will be beef on weck, hot dogs, burgers, sausages, salt potatoes, popcorn, apple cakes, pies, beverages and more, but come early, because it sells out quickly. Enjoy Art Gladow’s famous chicken chowder (bring a container for take-outs). Baked goods will be available at the General Store. Visit the website at www.newfanehistoricalsociety.com to see what they have to offer.
