NEWFANE STROLL: From computer help to book sales, a lot is happening at Newfane library

(Continued)

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal —

• Newfane’s Apple Harvest Festival is coming up on Sunday. Look for the country fair at the farm village museum, barbershop, schoolhouse, blacksmith, printer, country store and more. Enjoy food, music, dancers, crafters and a Civil War encampment. Admission and parking are free. The Town of Newfane Historical Society sponsors this fun, family event at West Creek and Ide roads.

• It’s auction time! The great Chinese auction, sponsored by the Eastern Niagara Hospital Newfane Site Auxiliary, is celebrating its 25th year of raising money to support hospital projects. The event will be held Oct. 2 at the Olcott Fire Hall. Doors open at 5 p.m. and drawings start at 7. Winners must be present to claim prizes and seating is limited. Admission, juice, coffee and cookies are free, as well as a chance on a door prize. Auction tickets are $5 for 25. Food and beverages will be available for sale, as well as a 50/50 draw. To make a donation to the auction, call Bonnie Eifert at 778-9257. Support our local jewel of a hospital!

• “Haunted Candlelight Tours” of the Van Horn Mansion, 2165 Lockport Olcott Road, Burt, will be starting soon. The ghost of “Malinda” and other hosts offer candlelit tours and eerie stories of the previous and current residents of this 1800s Victorian mansion. Tours take place from 7 to 11 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays, on Oct. 5, 6, 12, 13, 19, 20, 26 and 27. There is an admission fee; parking is free. Call 778-7197 now for large group reservations.

• October is Breast Cancer Month. Because the owner of the Winery at Marjim Manor is a breast cancer survivor, that will be the theme of an upcoming Victorian Tea. Margo Sue Bittner will share her story, and those of others at this inspiring event. The Tea begins at 1 p.m. Oct. 7 and includes a four-course meal. Various teas will be served throughout the event. The cost is $30 per person, presale only. Tickets are available at www.MarjimManor.com or by calling 778-7001. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Roswell Park Cancer Institute. In addition, various pink ribbon merchandise will be available. Proceeds from those purchases will also be donated.
