Scouts taking orders for community birthday calendars

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — While the weather is heating up, we’re counting down to the start of school!

The supply lists for Barker elementary through high school can be found online or at Thee Barker Store for shoppers. Personal high school schedules will not be mailed until the end of the month, but there are many things on the list that are general and can be purchased now while sales are on. Again, please support your hometown businesses before heading to the big box stores; we don’t want to lose them.

The Barker Boy Scouts are out and about selling the Community Birthday Calendar once again. The troop is in the rebuilding process and new scouts could really use your support. Please buy a calendar when they come to your house and help spread the word. Since the troop is small, members won’t be able to cover the whole school district area, but with your help they’ll touch base with as many people as possible.

Large wall calendars cost $5 each and they make great holiday gifts! Add the personal birthdays and anniversaries in your family so those important days are not forgotten. Orders will be taken until the end of August. If a scout does not contact you, contact Joan Lantinen at 795-3020 or lantinenj@yahoo.com.

Those calendars are one source for the birthdays that show up in the weekly Buzz newsletter at PWT Restaurant.

Have you been to the weekly Barker Farmer’s Market yet? There are only two official market weeks left and Ray Wood is this week’s entertainer. Bring a chair and relax in our shady park.

The market continues from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday. All the fresh local crops are available at one stop from area farmers. Don’t forget to get your 50/50 ticket; it helps to pay for the weekly entertainment.
