The next meeting of the Barker Seniors is Friday at the Barker Fire Hall. Due to a weather cancellation of the last meeting, nobody is signed up for the coming nutrition lunch, and members will need to call the town hall by Thursday at 795-3575 to reserve a lunch. The menu is breaded chicken patty, confetti rice, mixed vegetables, roll and butter, rice pudding, milk and coffee or tea. The suggested donation price rises to $3.25 on Feb. 1. Remember that the meetings are canceled whenever the Barker Central School is closed because of the weather. Julie’s game will play at 10:30 a.m. and the business meeting will include the swearing in of the group’s officers for 2014. The bus for Saturday’s trip to see “Wicked” at Shea’s Buffalo Theatre leaves at 4:30 p.m. from the Barker Fire Hall. If you’re already looking ahead to getting away for a vacation in 2014, check out the trips with the Barker Seniors. Trips are open to the public when space permits. They are taking reservations now for an April trip to the Sight and Sound Theatre in Lancaster, Pa. to see “Moses.”
A pound for a pint. That’s the January campaign for the Red Cross, which gives blood donors a pound of Dunkin’ Donuts coffee when they donate. You can give the gift of life and get a caffeine fix on Jan. 21 at Faith United Methodist Church in Barker. Drop by between 1 and 6 p.m. You can make an appointment by calling 1-800-RED CROSS, but walk-ins are welcome. Seasonal ills keep many regular donors from helping out, so your gift is important.
County Line United Methodist Church is sponsoring a card party starting at 6 p.m. Jan. 25 at the church, corner of Routes 269 and 18. It’s open to the community, so come and enjoy an evening of card playing. There will be euchre, cribbage, bid pitch or any other card game participants want to play. Admission is free; bring a snack to share. For more information, call Dennis Bailey at 735-7404.
