If one of your resolutions is to get more exercise, you might want to plan to join an exercise group with the Winter Wonderland Project folks. They will be opening the headquarters on Van Buren Street in Lockport (the old 2nd Presbyterian Church) at 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays, from Feb. 4 through Mar. 28. They will provide an exercise video to follow and lots of encouragement; families are welcome. There will be a sign-up at 7 p.m. Jan. 31 at the church. Cost is a $3 donation for one night or $5 for both. For more information, call Melody Dixon at 531-2357.

The winter chicken barbecue by the Barker Fire Department brings us a taste of summer in the middle of winter. The drive-through dinner is scheduled for pickup from noon to 1 p.m. Feb. 26. Dinners are $9 each and are pre-sale only. The menu is a half chicken, parsley potatoes, green beans, roll and a cookie. Contact any fire company member or call 795-3011 and leave a message. You can also purchase tickets at Sunday’s Community Recruit and auction. As always, the Barker Fire Department appreciates your continued support.

The Barker Lighthouse Optimist Club and the newly reorganized Junior Optimists are selling coupon books for Anderson’s Roast Beef and Frozen Custard, with lots of specialty discounts on great food and desserts, good until December. It offers more than $67 in savings for $3! You can get them at Thee Barker Store, from any Optimist member, or call me at 795-9262. Did you know that you get half-price cones at Anderson’s when it’s snowing?
