Stroll Around Newfane

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — Where is everybody? Generally, there is a lull in news submissions after the holidays and the early part of January. My inbox is empty, so this is a good time to share your own news. I know there are lots of great things happening in Newfane and Olcott, so be sure to send me your news. A community column needs your input and submissions, so I hope to hear from you soon.

The coffee cherry is sweet and tastes like watermelon, rosewater, and hibiscus all at once. The cicada fly, found in Africa, spends 17 years of its life sleeping; and only two weeks awake, during which it mates and then dies. You are more likely to be killed by a champagne cork than a poisonous spider. A donkey will sink in quicksand but a mule won’t. To have your picture taken by the very first camera you would have had to sit still for 8 hours. The heart pumps about 1 million barrels of blood during an average lifetime. Americans collectively eat 100 of chocolate every second. The abdomen of the ant contains two stomachs; one stomach holds the food for itself and second stomach is for food to be shared with other ants.
