BARKER CHATTERBOX: Don't let the cold weather keep you away from these hot events

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — The frigid weather is everyone’s topic of conversation, but hopefully the worst is behind us for now. Please continue to be vigilant with your children and pets and look out for your elderly friends and neighbors. Try to think of warm, sunny days ahead, and break your cabin fever by attending some really fun local events.

Bid on a yummy cake at the Barker Cub Pack 26 annual Cake Auction this Friday. The event will be held from 7:30 p.m. to sell-out in the Pratt Elementary Cafetorium, and is open to everyone in the community. The scouts will bake and decorate cakes for the audience to bid on and they will certainly be fun and creative. Support our local scouting projects and activities.

The big 2014 Relay For Life Kick-off celebration happens at 10 a.m. Saturday in the cafeteria at Roy B. Kelley Elementary School, 610 East High St., Lockport. This year’s theme is all red, white and blue with a “Star-Spangled Relay,” because the actual event falls on Flag Day — June 14-15 — at Emmet Belknap School track. Come to the kick-off for fun, awards, prizes and all the information and inspiration you need to start the Relay season. There will be coffee and juice, breakfast pizza, baked goods, fruit, water and more. Admission is free and everyone is invited to join the Relay family. The first team meeting will be held Feb. 12, also at the Roy B. Kelley cafeteria.
