CHATTERBOX: Baked goods are back at farmer's market

(Continued)

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal —

Cindy Labiak brings her music to the gazebo at the Barker Market on Thursday. We’ll be welcoming back Huntington, Childs and Atwater farms with amazing fresh corn, huge strawberries, melons, vegetables and more. The Friends of the Barker Free Library offer used books at a great price for summer reading. Roy Nerber has plants, flowers and garden art. Ashford Hollow has added banana milk flavor (tastes like the old banana fudgesicles we had as kids), spiced Chai and iced tea mixes to their gourmet coffee, fudge etc. Brianna’s Buddies bring cancer and angel jewelry, Kristen’s Henna Tattoos and more. You can also get skin and bath products and hand-painted gourd birdhouses. Look for fresh produce, crafts, woodworking and much more to make the trip worthwhile.

We’re looking ahead to another great season, with Barker Car Cruises scheduled August 2 and 30. If you have something you’d like to offer, you can rent a space for only $5. The money goes to pay for musical entertainment in the gazebo. There will be a 50/50 raffle each night and a special Salvatore’s dinner/hotel package raffle with tickets available until August. To be a part of the market, contact Jo Ann Greenwald at 795-3787. The complete summer entertainment schedule and market updates can be found at www.julieobermiller.vpweb.com. Yes, it’s hot but our shady park makes it a good way to spend a summer evening. Lots of food and drink specials at PWT make dinner easy, so come on down.

• Summer Recreation at Barker School is in full swing and runs through Aug. 29, but you must be registered in order to attend. You can get applications and information on the school’s website at www.barkercsd.net.

• Bring the family to enjoy summer fun at the Equi*Star Open House coming up on Sunday. The event takes place from noon to 5 p.m. and features a pulled pork dinner, live music, pony rides, a pie-judging contest, 50/50 split drawing and 25-cent games for the kids. New this year is a trick rider and cattle penning demonstration. Admission is free and everybody is welcome to visit the ranch. The ranch is located at 2199 Fuller Road. For information call 778-8249 or www.equistartheranch.com.
