County storm-proofing session set for Wednesday

SANBORN —

SANBORN — The state Department of State will host a public meeting Wednesday at Niagara County Community College to discuss development of a "resiliency strategy" to make Niagara County better prepared for storms.

Part of the effort is to identify projects needed to continue recovery from last year's severe summer storms. Up to $3 million of allocated capital funds will be made available to the county through the NY Rising Program, which is designed to help communities affected by storms create and implement locally devised strategies for rebuilding and strengthening their communities against future extreme weather events.

The resiliency strategy meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at NCCC's Fine Arts Theater. State department representatives, members of the NY Rising Niagara County planning committee and local elected officials will be on hand to introduce the project, schedule, components and expected outcomes.

For more information, contact Barbara Walck at 614-5902 or bwalck@niagaracc.suny.edu

The NY Rising Niagara County planning committee consists of co-chairs Sam Ferraro, commissioner, Niagara County Economic Development, and James Klyczek, NCCC president; four representatives of the county economic development, emergency services and the soil and water conservation departments; three representatives of United Way of Greater Niagara, American Red Cross of Western New York and the Niagara USA Chamber; and an AECOM project consulting team.
