Reach Workcamps will return to Newfane next summer.

The Newfane board of education approved a contract with the organization last week to house students taking part in two, one-week camps that will provide free home repairs in Niagara County in the summer of 2015.

Students in their junior and senior years of high school from across the country participate in the program, which assists income-eligible homeowners by making home repairs. The students might fix porches and steps, install a wheelchair ramp or paint a home as needed.

The camps will be held from July 5 through July 11 and July 12 through July 18, 2015. Participating students will be housed at Newfane High School during their visit.

Next year will mark the Reach Workcamps' third visit to Newfane. Reach previously was based here in the summers of 2010 and 2013.

During the 2013 camp, one of the largest in Reach's history, campers provided needed repairs to 75 homes, improving safety and keeping them dry, according to Reach representative Dan Costello of Lockport.

The work done by the campers is "amazing," Newfane school board vice-president Kelly Artieri said. “I am very happy for their return and to be a part of it. The sincerity of the kids is overwhelming."
