Former NFTA cop sentenced

Will have to register as sex offender

LOCKPORT — A former Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority police officer will spend six years on probation for sending a sexually explicit photo to a teenage girl, a girl he later had a sexual encounter with.

In addition, John W. Ingham will spend 25 weekends in the service of the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office Work Program. Ingham was sentenced Thursday by State Supreme Court Justice Richard C. Kloch, Sr. Ingham will also register as a sex offender.

Back in November, Ingham, 27, who now resides in Buffalo, pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree dissemination of indecent material to a minor, an E felony, and sexual misconduct, a misdemeanor.

Ingham stood before Kloch with his attorney, Robert Viola. Viola said Ingham threw away a promising career, something Ingham agreed with when given a chance to speak.

“It was a foolish mistake, one that cost me greatly,” Ingham said.

“It’s amazing you haven’t said anything about the victim,” Kloch responded. “She was a child you took advantage of. How screwed up is she now? How will she face each day? I haven’t heard any remorse.”

Prior to working for the NFTA, Ingham was a Barker police officer. He was arrested in July and immediately suspended from the NFTA. Ingham resigned a few days later.

The incidents occurred in May and the photo was sent to a Niagara County girl’s cell phone.

In another case before Kloch, Raymond P. Boskat of Ridge Road, Newfane, was sentenced to 10 years probation and will spend 25 weekends with the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office Work Program.

In December, Boskat, 38, pleaded guilty to third-degree rape, an E felony.

At Thursday’s sentencing, the victim’s father spoke, asking that Boskat be sent to prison so the same thing would not happen to anyone else’s little girl.

“He is a menace to society,” the father said.

The judge responded, saying the probation sentence fit, but would be stiff.

“He (the father) has all the right in the world to be upset,” Kloch said to Boskat. “Everything you touch is dysfunctional.”

Boskat has a son, Collinraye, 17, who in August was sentenced to 11 years in prison for fondling a 6-year-old girl last year, then while out on bail on that charge, having sexual contact with a 15-year-old girl by force.

Boskat will return to court Feb. 23 to determine what level sex offender he will register as.
