Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — A Lockport woman will serve time in state prison for driving under the influence of heroin in a two-car crash that took the life of 82-year-old Elijah Holmes of Niagara Falls.

Samantha M. Thompson, 21, West Avenue, was sentenced Wednesday by State Supreme Court Justice Richard Kloch Sr. to three to nine years behind bars for second-degree manslaughter, one and a third to four years for second-degree vehicular assault and one year for driving while ability impaired by drugs. All three sentences will run concurrently.

Thompson pleaded guilty to the charges in April. She admitted to crossing the center line on Route 31 in Lewiston last June, striking the vehicle Holmes was riding in. Holmes died from injuries he suffered during the crash. Holmes’ granddaughter was seriously injured.

Toxicology tests found a high level of morphine in Thompson’s blood stream.
