Two Orleans County men have been charged with breaking into a Locust Street home Monday.
James R. Richards Jr., 27, of 12398 Route 31, Medina, and Enrique Fierro, 21 Platt St., Albion, were each charged Monday with second-degree burglary and third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, both felonies. The men were also charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief, a misdemeanor.
A pickup driven by Richards, with Fierro as a passenger, was stopped by Middleport police about 9:04 p.m. Monday after a report came in of a hit-and-run property damage accident.
Richards allegedly appeared to be intoxicated and was placed under arrest, the report said.
As officers were investigating, they reportedly noticed several items that appeared to have been hastily thrown into the back of the car.
During interviews with Richards and Fierro, officers reportedly learned the items had been stolen from a house on Locust Street in Lockport.
The pickup was towed by the Lockport Police Department, and Richards was taken to the sheriff’s department to be charged with traffic offenses, the report said.
A resident at 41 Locust St. told police his apartment door had been kicked in, and the apartment had been ransacked.
The damage to the door was estimated at $280, the report said.
Both Fierro and Richards were held without bail. They are due today in Lockport City Court.
