BLOTTER: Police reports published Nov. 5

City of Lockport

• ASSAULT: Jason C. Cain, 26, 114 LaGrange St., was charged Wednesday with third-degree assault, petit larceny and endangering the welfare of a child. Officers were dispatched Wednesday morning for a report of a domestic violence incident on North Transit Street. The victim told police that Cain became intoxicated and began to argue with her. A police report said the victim left her residence to call her father and Cain followed her out the door while still arguing with her. According to the police report, the suspect grabbed the cell phone from the victim and when she went to get it back, he choked her by wrapping his arms around her neck and bit her left cheek in front of her 1-year-old son. Cain then kept the phone, which was valued at $150, police said. An order of protection was issued against the suspect.

City of Lockport

• MARIJUANA: Michelle L. Entwistle, 48, 128 Ontario St., Apt. 2, was charged Wednesday with fifth-degree possession of marijuana. A police report said patrol observed a motorist using a cell phone while driving at the intersection of Transit and Genesee streets. When police stopped Entwistle, they reportedly smelled a strong odor of marijuana and observed a bag of suspected pot in her purse. The suspect allegedly admitted to having marijuana and was arrested on the spot.

Town of Lockport

• DWI: Timothy A. Upton, 22, 203 Ash St., Lockport, was charged with first-degree driving while intoxicated Wednesday. A Niagara County sheriff’s deputy observed a vehicle making a right turn onto South Transit Street without the use of a directional signal and run over the curb. Deputies said the suspect appeared drunk and failed several sobriety tests. Upton was held at the Niagara County Jail in lieu of $250 bail.

• FIRE: Patrol responded Tuesday to Oak Lane for a report of a vehicle on fire. A man told police that while he was driving, the cab of his 1985 Ford pick up truck caught fire. “He exited the vehicle and was able to put the fire out with an extinguisher,” according to the report. An electrical problem was suspected to be the cause of the fire.
