Leandra's law arrest made

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — Niagara County sheriff’s deputies responding to a motor vehicle accident Friday night in Pendleton charged an area man with a felony count of driving while intoxicated under Leandra’s law.

Louis G. Friedly also faces a charge of failure to yield the right-of-way after the vehicle he was operating turned into the path of a second car.

According to reports, Friedly was traveling north on Transit Road and attempted to make a left turn onto Fisk Road at 9:55 p.m. His actions caused a southbound vehicle, driven by Thomas DiPasquele, to crash into his car.

Riding in Friedly’s vehicle were his two sons, ages 17 and 13.

DiPasquele suffered non-life threatening injuries in the accident and was transported to Erie County Medical Center for treatment.

Friedly and his two children were not injured.

Firefighters from the Wendelville and Rapids fire districts responded to the accident, along with Rural Metro Ambulance personnel.

Named after Leandra Rosado, an 11-year-old girl killed in an Oct. 2009 accident in New York City, Leandra’s Law makes it an automatic felony on the first offense to drive drunk with a person age 15 or younger inside the vehicle.
