Robberies may be related

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — Three armed robberies in the Lockport area on Sunday may be linked, according to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriff's Office crime bureau is working closely with the New York State Police, Undersheriff Michael Filicetti said Monday, adding that it's an active investigation and several leads are being followed.

"We believe they're related," he said.

The three robberies occurred in the span of just under eight hours. In the first incident, the NOCO gas station on Transit Road, a mile from where deputies were still investigating a stabbing at the Big Lots on South Transit Road, was robbed around 3:20 p.m. According to the Sheriff's Office, the suspect displayed a knife and demanded money. He then fled the scene on foot and hopped a fence into the Woodlands manufactured home complex, where witnesses saw the suspect enter a white sedan on Norwood Avenue. The car had been waiting for the suspect, and there were two other people in the car, the Sheriff's Office said.

In the second incident, just after 6:30 p.m. in Gasport, Crosby's, 7953 Rochester Road, was robbed by a suspect wielding a knife and demanding money. The suspect fled the scene and was seen walking toward the railroad tracks north of the store, the Sheriff's Office said.

The third incident occurred just before 11 p.m. when the Sunoco gas station at South Transit and Robinson roads was robbed by a suspect with a knife. The Sheriff's Office said the suspect is believed to have fled down Robinson Road.

The suspect in the first two robberies was described as a thin white male in his 20s. In the description from the first robbery, the suspect was described as being about 5 feet 9 inches tall, sporting a scruffy beard and wearing a blue knit hat with a Sabres and Labatt Blue logo. He was also wearing a jacket with a large British flag on the back. In the second robbery, the suspect was described as standing between 5-feet 7-inches and 6 feet tall. He wore a black knit hat with lighter colored stripes and a tan hooded coat, the Sheriff's Office said. Information on the suspect in the third robbery wasn't readily available.
