DRUG OFFENSE: Three small bags of marijuana were found after a fire alarm brought the Sanborn Volunteer Fire Company to a dorm on the campus of Niagara County Community College Thursday around 9:40 a.m., the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office said. During a sweep of the dorm rooms to make sure there was no fire by members of the fire company and facilities staff, the bags of marijuana were found in an open desk drawer. The drugs were confiscated and will be destroyed, the Sheriff’s Office said, as it was a small amount. The student who lives in the dorm room will not be charged, but he will be asked to move out of the dorm, the Sheriff’s Office said.

INJURY ACCIDENT: Lynette M. Delacruz, 31, 1701 Quaker Road, Barker, a Quaker Road man and Delacruz’s 4-month-old daughter were involved in an accident on Quaker Road just after noon Wednesday, the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office said. A witness at the accident scene said that the 4-month-old was laying on the roof of the overturned car, and a Sheriff’s Deputy on the scene found that the child seat was still strapped in. According to the Sheriff’s Office, that indicated that the infant was not in the child seat at the time of the accident. Delacruz told the Sheriff’s Office that her daughter must have slipped out of the seat, but when deputies interviewed the man in the car, he said that he was holding the infant at the time of the accident, despite receiving a call from Delacruz telling him not to tell the Sheriff’s Office what happened. The case was referred to Child Protective Services. Delacruz was charged with failure to properly restrain a child in an appropriate child restraint system. Other charges are pending against Delacruz, the Sheriff’s Office said.
