Brother accused of taking bail money

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — ROYALTON – A Town of Lockport man is accused of faking his identity in order to steal his brother’s bail money from Royalton Town Court.

After a  fraud investigation that went on for more than a month, New York State Police said they charged Richard J. Tomaino, 26, with second-degree falsifying business records and second-degree criminal impersonation Monday.

Bail was set in Lockport Town Court at $1,000 cash or $5,000 bond. Tomaino is scheduled to appear Tuesday in Royalton Town Court.

After receiving an anonymous complaint, State Police investigators said they found that Tomaino had allegedly used his brother’s identification and presented an original bail receipt to the Royalton Town Court to obtain the bail money that was originally posted by his brother.

Tomaino’s brother was incarcerated when Tomaino took the money, investigators said.
