Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — WILSON — A New Road resident apparently interrupted a burglary in process when she returned home Thursday.

According to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office, the resident entered her home, in the 3400 block of New Road, about 11:45 a.m. and immediately saw signs the contents had been rummaged through. While she was on the phone with her husband, she said, she heard noise coming from the basement and saw an unknown person run up the stairs and out a back door of the house.

Sheriff's deputies searched the house and grounds and did not find a suspect. Nothing was reported missing from the house.

The intruder is described as a person of unknown race, wearing white and black sneakers, dark jeans and a black hooded sweatshirt.

The basement of the home is being treated as a crime scene, according to the sheriff's office.
