Police seek Falls shooter

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — NIAGARA FALLS — Police detectives are seeking the gunman who sprayed gunfire at the corner of 18th Street and Niagara Avenue on Tuesday night, leaving three people wounded.

Investigators said the gunman walked up to three young men standing outside a convenience store, around 6:50 p.m., and simply opened fire. A 16-year-old boy suffered a wound to his arm, while an 18-year-old was hit in his ankle.

The third victim, a 21-year-old man, was struck in his shoulder. All three were treated at Niagara Falls Memorial Center. None of the wounds were considered life threatening, according to police.

"Preliminarily, we believe that one of the three (victims) may have been the target (of the shooting) and the other two (victims) were just hit by stray bullets," Falls Police Detective Lt. Mike Trane said. "We don't think (the gunman) was shooting at all three."

Trane said detectives have not received much cooperation in their investigation from either the victims or witnesses. Investigators declined to speculate on a possible motive for the shooting.

Police are turning to the public for help. Anyone who may have information about the shooting is asked to contact Criminal Investigation Division detectives at 286-4553.
