Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — A stolen truck was found in a one-vehicle crash the same night it was taken, the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office reported Friday.

A 2010 Dodge Ram was taken from a Lake Avenue home sometime during overnight Saturday and Sunday in the Town of Lockport. The victim said the keys were left inside the vehicle as it sat in the driveway.

Early Sunday, the Sheriff’s Office was called to an accident on Lake Avenue, where a vehicle had hit a utility pole and downed wires.

Wrights Corners Volunteer Fire Co. reported the driver had fled the scene, heading north on foot as seen by the footprints in the snow.

Deputies were unable to find the driver, as the prints led to Oak Run Golf Course’s parking lot. However, no prints were detected from there and local businesses did not report seeing anything unusual.

The truck was identified as the one taken from the Lake Avenue home. The victim was not at home when the truck was recovered so the vehicle was towed.

On Sunday morning the victim reported the truck stolen. The victim told deputies the truck was taken during the night.

The truck was valued at $5,000, according to the incident report.
