Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — CAMBRIA — A Lockport man who fled the scene of a one-car crash early Sunday was found about two hours later and taken into custody by Niagara County Sheriff's deputies.

Aaron McMichael, 32, 5195 Upper Mountain Road, was charged with driving while intoxicated, refusal to take a breath test, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, failure to use a designated lane and moving from a lane unsafely.

Responding to the crash near 3540 Lower Mountain Road about 2 a.m., deputies discovered the driver had fled the area on foot. A K-9 from the Lewiston Police Department was brought in to search for the driver but was unsuccessful.

About 3:45 a.m., a sheriff's captain located McMichael near Shawnee and Stoelting roads where he was evaluated by an EMS crew and signed off on medical treatment.

McMichael told deputies that prior to the accident he had been at a Ridge Road bar where he consumed eight or nine beers.

McMichael reportedly failed a series of field sobriety tests and was charged. He also refused to take a chemical test and was taken to the Niagara County Jail on $250 bail.

The residents at 3540 Lower Mountain Road were notified of the damage to their property, the sheriff's office said.
