Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — Facebook message alerts woman to break-in

A woman told the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office she received a message on Facebook that someone had broken in to her grandmother’s apartment on Lincoln Avenue on Wednesday.

Deputies responded the apartment in the 6500 block of Lincoln Avenue at 10:20 a.m. Wednesday and found that a door had been pried open and the deadbolt was damaged.

A Remington pump action shotgun and a 24-karat gold necklace were reported stolen. The total loss was $350.

Hartland

DWI: Amanda L. Berning, 30, of Middleport, was charged last week with driving while intoxicated. New York State Police said Berning was given court appearance tickets for DWI and an equipment violation.

Newfane

BURGLARY: Aaron S. Hill, 46, 6465 Lake Road, Appleton, was charged Tuesday with third-degree burglary and petit larceny. The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office said Hill is being held in Niagara County Jail and is due Monday in Newfane Town Court.

HARASSMENT: Ernest Friend, 32, 74 Allen St. Gasport ,was charged with second degree harassment and fourth degree criminal mischief Wednesday afternoon. Arraignment is set for 9 a.m. Monday.
