FRAUD: A Birchwood Drive woman almost lost $4,000 after a man claiming to be her grandson called and said he was arrested and needed bail money around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office said. A second male called the woman and claimed to be her grandson’s lawyer, who instructed the woman to withdraw $4,000, which she did. The man claiming to be the lawyer instructed the woman to either wire the money to him through Fed Ex, or give it to her grandson’s girlfriend. The woman refused, the Sheriff’s Office said, and later found out that her grandson had never been arrested. The woman was instructed to change her phone number and monitor her accounts. The case was closed pending further information, the Sheriff’s Office said.

LARCENY: Brittany R. Saxton, 25, was charged with petit larceny around 10:50 a.m. Wednesday, the New York State Police said. She was issued an appearance ticket.

ACCIDENT: A two-car accident at the entrance to Walmart on South Transit Road at about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday resulted in damage to the vehicles, the New York State Police said. No injuries were reported.
