Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — Roughly $800 in damage was done to the pavilion behind Pekin Fire Hall on Upper Mountain Road, in Cambria, after a possible attempted act of arson.
The Niagara County Sheriff's Office said that sometime Aug. 20 and Sept. 20, an unknown person put graffiti all over the picnic tables and dented the siding. A brown oily substance was found on the siding, deputies said.
Four picnic tables were damaged, costing the Cambria-based volunteer fire company about $200 total. About $500 damage was done to the siding and $100 damage was done to the pavilion door and lock.
Also, one of the pavilion's rafters was burned and a burned piece of plastic was found. Behind the pavilion, deputies found a burned ball in an oven mitt, two empty beer cans and an empty plastic liquor bottle.
On Sept. 10, the Niagara County Sheriff's Office work program was at the fire hall and a coordinator found several plastic bottles that contained lighter fluid and had rags coming out of their openings. The bottles were removed but no report was filed at the time, the sheriff's office said last week.
