Pipe bomb scare closes town street

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — NEWFANE — Ellicott Road was closed for a few hours Thursday morning after a resident feared a pipe bomb was left in her mailbox.

The woman found a round plastic tube with yellow paper sticking of the mailbox which she didn’t notice the night before. She left the home and called the sheriff’s department.

The State Police bomb squad responded to the scene as did Officer Aric Morgan of the Lockport Police Department. The woman stated that she heard her dog bark around 9:30 p.m.

Wrights Corners Fire Department was put on stand by. The Lockport Post Office contacted the carrier that delivers mail to the home. The carrier advised that he delivered a circular package to the home on Wednesday.

The resident forgot her daughter ordered a poster off of EBay. The item was shipped from China.

It was a poster and all units were advised to stand down. No further was action taken.
