Domestic squabble leads to two arrests

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — Lockport Police responding to a domestic incident at a Washburn Avenue address Friday morning ended up arresting both participants after they got physical with the officers.

According to police reports, Jeffrey S. Hewitt, 22, and Naimah M. Callaham, 26, both of 288 Washburn St. were arrested and charged with obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest.

Officers responded to Hewitt’s and Callaham’s apartment around 10:25 a.m. and upon arrival they could hear a man and woman yelling at each other. Once inside, police separated the two.

An officer tried to interview Callaham, but Hewitt allegedly tried to get involved by yelling and attempting to push past an officer. He was instructed several times by police to sit down and remain quiet but he refused.

When advised he would be under arrest, Hewitt backed up and refused to comply with officers’ commands. He then clenched his fists and made “several aggressive statements towards patrol,” reports indicate.

Police then took Hewitt to the ground but he continued to struggle with officers, refusing to comply with several orders to place his hands behind his back. He continued to struggle with officers until they gained control and handcuffed him.

During the struggle, Callaham allegedly grabbed an officer by his coat collar and tried to pull him off Hewitt. The patrolman pushed her away and told Callaham to get back.

She refused and came back at the officer “in an aggressive manner” at which time she was handcuffed and arrested, the report said.

Both were held for court.
