Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — A Lockport man who was wanted by the New York State Police for allegedly collecting unemployment benefits while he was actually employed was arrested Wednesday night, just hours after police sought public help.

State Police arrested James D. Vaccaro, 49, after following up on leads generated by numerous tips following the airing of his warrant on several news programs. Vaccaro was located and arrested by troopers based at the Clarence barracks at a motel on Main Street in Clarence.

Vaccaro had an arrest warrant for grand larceny in the third degree, a class D felony, Falsifying Business Records 1st and Offering a False Instrument for Filing 1st, class E felonies.

According to state police, Vaccaro had illegally collected more than $4,500 in unemployment benefits.

He was arraigned before the Town of Lockport Court and was remanded to the Niagara County Jail on $2,500 cash bail and is scheduled to appear in City of Lockport court on Monday at 9:00 a.m. 

Vaccaro was also found to have an Erie County Family Court warrant for failing to obey a child support order.
