Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — A dirt bike and a mountain bike were stolen from a Beattie Avenue garage Thursday night, leading to a chase as a victim tried to catch up to three males believed were responsible for the crime.

Niagara County Sheriff's deputies were responding to the 10:45 p.m. burglary report in the town of Lockport when they were notified of the foot chase.

When deputies arrived, the victim had detained a juvenile on O'Connor Drive. Deputies brought the juvenile back to Beattie Avenue and contacted his mother, who arrived.

According to a sheriff's report, a female victim said sometime between 7:30 p.m. and 10:45 p.m. a 2011 Kawasaki dirt bike valued at $2,200 and a KONA mountain bike valued at $1,000 were stolen form her unlocked garage.

The woman said the dirt bike was found in high grass south of her residence.

Patrol interviewed the male, who said he was walking the area around the residence while waiting for deputies and saw three black males walking in the area. When he approached the trio, they ran.

The man was able to catch the juvenile and detain him until deputies arrived. The juvenile was interviewed in the presence of his mother and he said he did not take part in any criminal activity.

The bike, which belongs to the male victim, was located in high grass at the rear of the parking lot of 6493 Dysinger Road and returned.

The victims declined pursuing charges.
