Rash of tires slashed; police seek tips

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — Vandals slashed tires and stole property from about 20 vehicles overnight Thursday into Friday, Lockport Police said. Officers are looking for any information or video to assist in identifying suspects.

Patrol officers took 17 calls as of 1:30 p.m. on Friday concerning criminal mischief and vehicle larceny in the areas of Erie Street, High Street, Beattie Avenue, Willow Street, Hi-point Drive, Haines Street, McIntosh Drive and the Emmet Belknap Intermediate School parking lot. 

Complaints started coming in Friday morning for cut tires and stolen property from inside cars. The damage and loss in total will be in the thousands of dollars, according to the Lockport Police Department.

The police are requesting help from the public who may have witnessed or recorded on private video systems any suspicious persons of the city of Lockport after dark. There was indication from a couple of victims that motion lights were activated after 2 a.m., officers said.
